Dorsch Home | Ceramic Cookware Usage and Care Guide

Thank you for choosing Dorsch Home. Our premium ceramic non-stick cookware is engineered to deliver exceptional heat distribution and a clean, healthy, chemical-free cooking experience.

Because ceramic is a natural, mineral-based surface, it requires specific care to maintain its peak performance. To ensure the longevity of your cookware and protect your warranty, please read and follow these essential guidelines carefully.

1. ⏳ Understanding Ceramic Cookware Life Expectancy

Unlike bare metals such as stainless steel or cast iron, all non-stick surfaces—including ceramic—are inherently consumable coatings that naturally wear down over time with heat, friction, and usage.

  • Expected Lifespan: Depending entirely on cooking frequency, heat settings, and maintenance habits, a high-quality ceramic non-stick coating is designed to perform at its peak for 6 months to 3 years.

    • 6 to 12 Months: This is the typical lifespan for pots or pans subjected to heavy, daily high-heat cooking, or minor care deviations (such as occasional detergent use or thermal shock).

    • 1 to 3 Years: This is the expected lifespan for cookware treated with premium care—using low-to-medium heat, strict hand-washing, and protective storage.

  • Natural Wear: Over time, the coating will naturally experience gradual wear-and-tear and a slow, normal decline in its non-stick capabilities. This natural degradation is an industry-wide characteristic of all ceramic cookware and is not considered a manufacturing defect.

Once your pots or pans reach the end of their natural non-stick lifespan, they remain completely safe to cook with, though you may need to use a little more butter or cooking oil.

1. Before First Use

  • Gentle Wash: Remove all packaging and labels. Hand wash the cookware in warm water with a soft sponge and a tiny drop of mild, chemical-free dish soap. Dry thoroughly with a soft towel.

  • No Pre-Seasoning Needed: Your cookware is ready to perform right out of the box.

2. Cooking Guidelines (Protecting the Non-Stick Layer)

  • Never Heat an Empty Pan: Do not pre-heat dry or empty ceramic cookware. Ceramic heats up incredibly quickly and efficiently; dry heating can instantly scorch and permanently damage the non-stick properties.

  • Low-to-Medium Heat Only: Ceramic cookware is highly conductive. High heat is unnecessary and will burn the natural microscopic "release" layer of the ceramic. Always stick to low-to-medium heat settings.

  • Match Your Sizes (The Burner & Portion Rule): Always match the size of your food portion, your cookware, and your stovetop burner:

    • Small portion? Use a small pot/pan on a small burner.

    • Large portion? Use a larger pot/pan on a larger burner.

    • Why? Cooking a small portion in a massive pot/pan, or using a burner that is wider than the pan’s base, causes extreme localized overheating on the exposed edges, rapidly drying out and degrading the coating.

  • Use Safe Utensils: Never use metal utensils, knives, or sharp tools. We strictly recommend wood, silicone, or heat-resistant plastic utensils to prevent scratching the surface.

3. Cleaning & Maintenance (Hand-Wash Only)

  • Avoid Thermal Shock (The 5-Minute Rule): When you finish cooking, do not wash or submerge the hot cookware immediately. Allow the pot/pan to cool down naturally for at least 5 minutes before exposing it to water. Rapid temperature drops cause "thermal shock" that cracks the microscopic bond of the ceramic coating, ruining its non-stick properties.

  • Strictly Hand Wash (No Dishwashers): While dishwashers are convenient, the abrasive cycles, high heat, and aggressive chlorine/chemical tablets will strip, dull, and permanently destroy the natural ceramic coating. Dishwasher use will void your warranty.

  • Avoid Harsh Chemical Detergents: Standard, heavy-duty dish soaps contain harsh synthetic chemicals that degrade the ceramic over time. We recommend washing with warm water and a soft sponge. If soap is required, use only a tiny amount of mild, pH-neutral, or eco-friendly liquid soap.

  • Never Use Abrasives: Never use steel wool, wire scrubbers, green scouring pads, or abrasive cleaning powders. A soft microfiber cloth or non-scratch sponge is all you need.

4. Smart Storage

  • No Overnight Food Storage: Do not use your cookware as a container to store food in the refrigerator overnight. Foods (especially acidic ingredients like tomatoes, citrus, or salt) can react with and break down the protective ceramic barrier if left sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Prevent Scratching: If you stack your pots and pans in your cupboards, always place soft pot/pan protectors, felt pads, or clean towels between them to prevent metal-on-ceramic friction.

💡 Product Warranty & The Australian Consumer Law

At Dorsch Home, our products are designed to meet strict quality control standards. In accordance with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), our manufacturer’s warranty covers genuine factory defects.

Please note that our warranty does not cover the natural wear and tear of the non-stick surface over its expected lifespan, or physical degradation caused by a failure to maintain the product in accordance with the care guidelines outlined above. Damage resulting from dishwasher use, thermal shock, overheating, chemical stripping, overnight food storage, or abrasive cleaning is classified as product misuse and is not eligible for repair, replacement, or refund.

By taking a few extra moments to care for your ceramic cookware properly, you will enjoy clean, effortless, and healthy cooking!

🧽 How to Revive & Deep Clean Your Cookware

If your pots or pans are starting to lose their non-stick release, or if food is sticking, it is often due to a thin, microscopic layer of burnt-on food residue or carbonized cooking oil buildup. You can easily refresh and deep clean the ceramic surface using this natural method:

  1. The Baking Soda Soak: Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the surface of the pot or pan and add warm water. Let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes to loosen any stubborn, burnt-on food.

  2. For Stubborn Stains: If stains or sticky spots persist, add a splash of white vinegar to the baking soda and water mixture. Heat the mixture on the stovetop on a low setting for just a few minutes, then turn off the heat and let it soak.

  3. Wipe Clean: Once cooled, gently wipe the surface with a non-scratch sponge. The microscopic residue should lift right off, helping to refresh and restore the non-stick properties.

  4. Adjust Your Cooking Habits: Moving forward, ensure you lower your cooking temperatures (especially when the pot or pan is empty or once the food is done) and apply a small amount of extra butter or high-smoke-point cooking oil.

IMPORTANT!

Unlike synthetic chemical coatings (such as Teflon/PTFE), our natural ceramic coatings are silica-based and free of toxic substances. This means that even if a pot or pan is inadvertently overheated (our patented non-stick technology can withstand accidental overheating up to 450°C for short periods), no toxic fumes or chemicals are released. Furthermore, our premium coating will not bubble up or peel off.

Once your pots or pans reach the end of their natural non-stick lifespan, they remain 100% safe, non-toxic, and functional to cook with, though they will naturally require an increased application of cooking oils or butter to prevent food from sticking. This transition is a standard characteristic of eco-friendly ceramic materials and is factored into the reasonable expectations of the product's design.
